Fulfilling your potential, now and in the future.
Work to develop the Diploma in Hospitality was started by People 1st in April 2006. From then until March 2007 we consulted all the key stakeholders about what should be in the Diploma, and talked to higher and further education, schools, learners, parents, teachers. All were given the opportunity to attend our consultations or take part in on-line consultations. We completed the work (see “The Hospitality Line of Learning”) on the content and published it in March 2007. Our Line of Learning describes why we developed the Diploma, who we consulted and how we came up with the content. It contains all the content (topics) of the Diploma for level 1 (foundation), level 2 (higher) and level 3 (advanced).
The work to develop the qualifications started in July 2007, and will be completed by the awarding bodies by March 2008. QCA will also accredit successful awarding body qualifications by March 2008. This will allow fully worked up qualifications to be available in schools and with consortia by September 2008 a full year before teaching starts.
Consortia who wish offer the Diploma submitted their bids by Dec 3 2007, and successful bids will be announced by Easter 2008. The successful consortia will then have until August 2009 to get ready for implementation, with first teaching starting in September 2009.
Consortia will want to market the Diploma in Hospitality to learners from Autumn 2008, so that they are aware of it as a choice to begin in Sept 2009.
Most learners will be on two year programmes, so the first group will graduate in July 2011. This is when employers and Higher Education will start to accept Diploma graduates into jobs and educational programmes.
