Another 10 things that higher education academics should know about the Diploma in Hospitality!
In each newsletter, we aim to give you 10 more facts about the Diploma in Hospitality. The last two articles focused on more general Diploma facts, for instance, the three components or types of learning, that make up the Diploma in Hospitality. This article focuses on the main component, ie, Principal Learning. So, to impart even more understanding, here are some more facts that higher education academics should know about the Diploma in Hospitality, specifically the Principal Learning.
1) The foundation level principal learning contains four topics or units
2) The four foundation level topics are:
- Introducing the UK hospitality industry
- Introducing customer service
- Developing skills to work in the hospitality industry
- Preparing and serving food and beverages
3) The higher level principal learning contains seven topics or units
4) The seven higher level topics are:
- Exploring the UK hospitality industry
- Customer service in hospitality
- Working safely in hospitality
- Working in a hospitality team
- Dealing with costs and income in hospitality
- Providing hospitality service
- Food preparation and cooking
5) The advanced level principal learning contains 10 topics or units
6) The ten advanced level topics are:
- Investing in the hospitality industry
- Legislation and processes in the hospitality industry
- Customer service in the hospitality industry
- Building and developing effective hospitality teams
- Managing people in the hospitality industry
- Finance and budgetary control
- Running a hospitality business
- Sales and marketing
- Managing a food operation in hospitality
- Hospitality services
7) The foundation level topics are principally intended for study by 14 to 16 year old learners
8) The higher level topics are principally intended for study by 14 to 16 year old learners but can form a progression route for foundation level learners
9) The advanced level topics are intended for study by 16 to 18 year old learners and are a progression route for higher level learners
10) Although clear progression routes are built into the Diploma in Hospitality structure, it is possible for learners to start their studies at foundation, higher or advanced level.
