How you can get involved?
The detail of Diploma delivery is planned by local partnerships of employers with schools, colleges and training providers, who will be providing the associated courses and arranging work experience. Such local partnerships (called consortia) exist around the country.
The Diploma in Hospitality must be planned and delivered as a practical-based subject. It cannot, and must not, be seen as a "classroom" subject. Active employer involvement is vital to ensuring this and to ensuring that the Diploma in Hospitality fulfills its promises for learners, higher education and employers.
A crucial planning phase will lead up to the first running of the Diplomas in Hospitality by a number of consortia around the country starting in September 2009.
If you see the potential for the Diploma programme to benefit our industry in general and possibly your business in particular, you really should get involved as soon as possible. Now would be a great time for you to find out what is happening in your area.
Action steps:
1. Join a Consortium
Opportunities exist for employers to become members of local consortia and to help steer the development of local provision. If you have not already been invited to get involved and would like to know more, ring the 14 -19 advisor at your local County/City Education Department and ask for details of local Consortia who are intending to deliver the Diploma in Hospitality or contact the local Education Business Partnership.
2. Commit to Diploma involvement
A whole range of practical opportunities for employers to engage with and influence the Diploma:
- to offer work experience or taster days for learners,
- to take in teachers and lecturers for industry update placements,
- to offer master-classes or classroom input from time to time for groups of learners,
- to enable industry visits and to undertake recruitment interviews for potential recruits to the programme.
