Diploma in Hospitality Ministerial Visit

Employers have a key role in the development and delivery of the Diploma in Hospitality. As employers, you can offer:

  • knowledge of the current industry,
  • expertise in current industry practices,
  • awareness of trends and future skill needs.

The Diploma in Hospitality has been built from the ground up by employers, trainers, higher education practitioners and industry experts to provide learners with a route to employment, further training or higher education that is credible, relevant and engaging. This means that its content and means of delivery have been strongly influenced by employers.

The development of the Diploma has been overseen by the Quality Group comprising employers representing the entire industry. Employers, large and small, from across the sector continue to be central to the ongoing refining of the Diploma, sharing their knowledge of the current industry, their expertise in current industry practices and their awareness of trends and future skills needs. The result has been a programme which employers in the industry are excited by and want to engage with.

Skills and knowledge...

The Diploma in Hospitality combines the development of practical skills relevant to all aspects of the industry with a sound knowledge of how the industry works and the ongoing development of skills in English, Maths and ICT. It also aims to build learners' confidence and people skills and to engender appropriate attitudes, all of which are vital to success in all aspects of hospitality.

The breadth of topics covered by each level of the Diploma is impressive. That breadth demands that young people be given the opportunities to acquire, practise, and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a range of appropriate settings, including school, college, training facilities and, of course, the workplace.

I think the variety of people delivering the skills to be learned will really make it a usable, valuable qualification.Ms. June Harvey
